Cita en la Cumbre describes an adventure. An adventure that begins and ends in Patagonia and that, to a large extent, takes place in that part of the world. The adventure is a life lived under the influx of mountains. Sometimes on their slopes, sometimes looking at them from afar, but always thinking of them. I began writing the book when, close to turning forty years old, I decided to try again to climb Mt. Fitz Roy, that magnificent sculpture in the Patagonian Andes. I wanted to explain why someone at that age, content with his life, would want to do so. I did not want to write a biography, although the result is biographical. I wanted it to be more than that the story of an expedition. There are plenty of those and, even if I climbed Fitz Roy, that sole event would not justify another book. The work should explore and elaborate the thoughts that exist in every mountaineer's mind. I hope for this book that, when someone asks me "What for?" or "Still with that?" I'll be able to answer by giving him a copy, with no need for words.
